WR187 Pressurized E Plane Bend Waveguide for High Power Applications
This product is a professional Waveguide Bend featuring an E plane design with a gas inlet port for pressurization. The waveguide operates in the WR187 (BJ48) band and includes a built in gas inlet that allows the interior cavity to be filled with various gases. As a Pressurized Bend, it prevents high power arcing and breakdown, especially at high altitudes or in high peak power applications. The pressure rating is suitable for demanding environments. The bend has dimensions of 125.5 by 80 millimeters. The construction uses aluminum material with conductive oxidation and paint coating for durability. The interface is available as FAM48 or FDP48 flange options. Custom options are available upon request.
This pressurized E plane bend delivers excellent electrical performance across its operating frequency band. The Voltage Standing Wave Ratio (VSWR) is rated at 1.1, which shows very good impedance matching with minimal signal reflection. The insertion loss is very low, ensuring efficient signal transmission through the bend. The gas inlet allows the interior to be filled with dry air or other gases to prevent arcing and breakdown. This pressurization is essential for high peak power transmission and high altitude operation where low air pressure creates risk of electrical discharge. The large cavity cross section allows high continuous wave and peak power transmission. The robust aluminum construction provides good mechanical strength and resists vibration and deformation.
One clear strength of this Pressurized E Plane Bend is its ability to prevent arcing in demanding high power environments while changing signal direction in the vertical plane. It is widely used in radar high power transmission links and traveling wave tube output feeder lines to solve the problems of high peak power transmission and long distance arcing. Other applications include broadcast television high power transmission stations, military ultra high power microwave transmission links, and high altitude remote RF base stations where low pressure environments create risk of breakdown. Pressurization prevents arcing and maintains reliable operation. These bends are also used in pulse high power test systems to ensure stable transmission without discharge interference. For naval shipboard high power microwave systems operating in high humidity and salt spray environments, pressurization prevents moisture ingress and corrosion.
In practical use, this Pressurized Bend handles professional high power transmission tasks very well. For radar systems operating at high peak power, it provides reliable direction changes without arcing. For high altitude communication sites, pressurization compensates for low atmospheric pressure that would otherwise cause breakdown at the bend point. For shipboard installations, dry gas pressurization prevents moisture from entering the waveguide bend, protecting against corrosion and arcing. The gas inlet allows easy connection to pressurization equipment. The standard flange interfaces mate securely with common WR187 components. It stands as a solid example of a well designed pressurized E plane bend for reliable high power and high altitude RF transmission.
